Hyttsten has many good properties for road building material. High deformation resistance, low volume weight, good insulation properties and bonds with cement-like bonding. Altogether this gives a first-rate product for road construction.

Hyttsten in the majority of cases is a better alternative to crushed rock. The low volume weight decreases even the pressure on bad ground and gives more volume/ton compared to traditional material which entails a lower contract cost.

Quickly cooled blast furnace slag, Hyttsand, has also very good ground frost insulation qualities and can in most cases replace cellular plastic insulation.
